Dr Shankar always agreed to meet up with us or speak to us over the phone whenever requested. He took time to explain the nature of Rupsha's difficulties and the approach was rational and up to our expectations. He has offered follow up post - discharge even though we are 'out of county'. We felt adequately listened to.

Response from Dr Sachin Sankar

Thank you for your feedback. Of all the feedbacks I have received I find this one the most useful. And I feel that anybody who is going to be admitted to one of our units needs to look at this. When you are admitted you may be admitted either as a voluntary patient or as a detained patient that the mental health act. Our endeavour is always to discharge you as soon as possible so that you can continue your treatment at home. The only reason why you are in the hospital is because of risk. Unfortunately neither I nor anybody else can promise you that you will not be detained or that you would be moved to another unit for your own safety. Where you are treated depends upon your level of risk. CAMHS services always endeavour to treat people at home and the vast majority are then depending upon your risk you may be sent to an open unit like the set on the Burrows. Or a psychiatric intensive care unit of which there are none in the county. Or a low or medium secure facility. This is totally determined by the risk that you pause 1) to yourself to 2 )others and 3) the property our first duty is to keep you safe. And your risk determines where you will be placed. The matter of the mental health act. Sectioning somebody or not sectioning somebody again is not my choice. If it is felt that you are unable to make your decisions in your best interest a panel of three people which includes two doctors and a mental health practitioner. Usually a social worker will assess you for sectioning if they all three decide that you are not able to make decisions in your best interest in your place on a section of the mental health act. Again this is not a gift and I cannot promise that you will not be sectioned I can say that I will try to work with you which I do with all my patients to a keep you as a voluntary patient and be to see that you are treated at the set or the Burrows however if the risk is so high that you are at harm of seriously injuring yourself or others reluctantly you need to go to a more secure place and this may require you to be under the mental health act..
